There are three main warranty types that we will be discussing today. There is the standard manufacturer’s warranty which covers mostly the products or materials. There is also the workmanship warranty from your contractor that covers the installation. We will also discuss the extended manufacturer’s warranty that covers contractor workmanship along with expanded coverage for the products. Keep in mind that warranties vary within different manufacturer and contractors. It is best to discuss warranty details with the contractor.
-
Standard manufacturer’s warranty typically covers manufacturer defects on the materials. They typically do not include labor to replace the defective material and only cover the cost of the failed material.
-
Workmanship warranty typically covers the cost of labor and materials needed to make necessary repairs due to a failed roof system. Workmanship warranty may protect you against material defects or failures that occur due to improper installation practice by the contractor.
-
Extended manufacturer’s warranty provides a comprehensive coverage beyond the contractors coverage. This type of warranty is offered to include the cost to repair and or replace a failed roof system by the manufacturer. Workmanship is typically included.
It is good practice to discuss warranty details with the contractor and ask what is included, what are the exclusions if any and how many years is the warranty honored for.
